Alpha-lipoic acid is a substance the body makes and uses in enzymes involved in energy metabolism. Supplemental ALA has also been investigated for diabetic nerve symptoms. Its biological role and antioxidant activity are useful context, but neither establishes that a retail capsule improves energy, repairs nerves or prevents disease.
