Search and filter this category ↗Saw palmetto is an extract from the fruit of a palm plant and is frequently sold for urinary symptoms associated with benign prostate enlargement. It has been studied extensively enough to test that claim. Extract names and fatty-acid standardization may describe composition, but they do not overcome the overall lack of convincing clinical benefit.
NCCIH reports that a 2023 review found little or no benefit for benign-prostatic-hyperplasia symptoms. Two large NIH-supported trials were also negative, including one testing higher-than-usual amounts. No extraction method has a demonstrated general advantage that makes every related product effective; hair-growth evidence is also limited.
